Teaming up with Keefe and Tansy we had been warned to dress up warmly for a trip to Sector Wild Side at Sella. The crunch of ice as we drove over puddles on the steep approach hinted at the wisdom of the advice, and the warning ‘bing’ as the thermometer dropped to 4C was confirmation.
This is a seriously impressive crag, stretching up the hillside with row upon row of 8s with a tough 6c+, a solitary 7a/+ and a couple of 7bs being the only offerings in my pay grade. Whilst Keiff quietly despatched an 8a project I battled my way through the slopey crux of the ‘warm up’ before a fairly comfortable ascent of the excellent of the fine leaning corner of Si te dicen que cai (hint – you actually climb the arête) before a pretty decent stab at Llanuras belicas ground to a halt at the top of the tufa.
Over and above the excellent climbing, the remote and peaceful setting is truly enchanting.
