Plitvice Lakes National Park

In line with a new found determination to try and take more rest days, we headed for a couple of days R and R at Plitvice Lakes National Park. Any guide to Croatia rates this as a must see natural wonder, and despite a general inclination to avoid any “must see” sites, it was handily situated halfway down to our next climbing destination at Paklenica.

The particular makeup of the limestone geology has created a series of a dozen or so tiered lakes, linked by waterfalls – the level edges of the lakes mean that the water cascades in numerous mini falls across a broad curtain of tumbling water.
