Ravenstones and Rob’s Rocks – a two Chew day

With the Rucksack Club meet set for Ravenstones in the evening, but Jim needing to be back by 5, we settled on a 2 crag strategy. Start the day at Rob’s Rocks and then yomp over to Ravenstones to join the late shift.

Part one of the plan was a winner, with brilliant blue skies and shelter from the wind making for very pleasant climbing conditions.

With the forecast set to turn chilly in the evening, and Ravenstones being north facing and exposed to the prevailing wind, Helen exercised good mountain judgement and headed for the comfort of home – Rob’s Rocks being clearly just Far Right Ravenstones, she’d actually attended the meet of course!

There’s a clearly marked path on the OS map over the top of Chew from Rob’s Rocks to Ravenstones, but absolutely no evidence of it on the ground! Luckily, the dry weather made for reasonable progress. Arriving after a circuitous 2 mile yomp was like entering a different world – a rather chilly and green one!

I was a bit concerned that I might find myself on my own (and with no lift home!) but it turned out that there were almost a dozen others daft enough to turn up! Despite the chill we did some great routes…

… Washed down with a swift pint at The Clarence. What a grand day!
